A sex toy depends entirely on its power source: a vibrating motor powered by a lower-quality alkaline battery runs up to 20% slower than with a premium battery of the same size, which translates in concrete terms to a noticeable loss of power. For high-end toys like Satisfyer or We-Vibe, investing in brand-name batteries or using the original USB charger is not a luxury but a necessity to preserve motor battery life. Find all compatible sex toys in the catalog.
Batteries and accessories, how does it work?
Standard alkaline batteries (zinc-manganese dioxide) offer a nominal voltage of 1.5 V for AA and AAA sizes, and 9 V for the LR61 rectangular block. Their energy density is around 100 Wh/kg, which is sufficient for most sex toy motors. The actual duration varies depending on the intensity used: a vibrator running at maximum power consumes 2 to 3 times more energy than in gentle mode, significantly reducing the battery's lifespan. Duracell and Varta publish standardized duration tests; Kodak offers a good performance-to-price ratio for regular use.
Satisfyer USB chargers for intimate toys are proprietary magnetic cables or USB-C cords depending on the generation. It is strongly advised against using a non-certified third-party charger: a voltage higher than intended can damage the integrated LiPo battery and irremediably reduce its number of cycles. Most rechargeable sex toy batteries support 300 to 500 full cycles before losing 20% of their capacity. To extend the life of your toys, also consult our wellness and maintenance tips.
The different types of batteries and accessories
- AA alkaline batteries: the most common format, compatible with the majority of vibrators and classic vibrating dildos; choose Duracell Plus or Varta Industrial for optimal duration.
- AAA alkaline batteries: for small clitoral toys, bullets, and wired vibrating eggs; sensitive to temperature, keep away from heat.
- 9V LR61 battery: specific to high-power or multi-motor sex toys; Kodak offers a good price/capacity compromise in this format.
- Magnetic USB charger: proprietary cable for rechargeable Satisfyer, We-Vibe, and similar toys; keep the original cable to avoid any power surge.
How to choose your batteries and accessories properly
- Check the required format: read the toy's user manual before purchase; some models require rare formats (C, D) often overlooked during purchase.
- Prefer tested brands: Duracell, Varta, and Kodak publish their capacities in mAh; avoid unbranded batteries whose actual capacity is rarely in line with the indications.
- Stock quantity: keep at least double the number of batteries required per toy to avoid interrupting a session; 8 or 12 packs are more economical.
- Mandatory recycling: used alkaline batteries fall under selective WEEE collection; collection points exist in all stores selling batteries in France.
- Original charger for rechargeables: never use a non-certified universal charger on a sex toy LiPo battery; risk of overheating and premature degradation.
