How does silicone lubricant work?
Unlike water-based formulas, silicone lubricant creates a protective film that is neither absorbed by the skin nor evaporated. Its molecular structure allows it to remain active up to 5 to 10 times longer than water-based gels, significantly reducing interruptions during intimacy. Silicone molecules slide over one another without forming a sticky residue, which accounts for the silky sensation characteristic of this family of lubricants.
Silicone is also water-resistant: it does not wash off in the shower or bath, making it an ideal choice for aquatic use. However, it is not recommended for use with silicone toys, as it can damage the surface of the material. For your anal sex toys made of ABS, metal, or glass, it remains perfectly suitable. Note that according to a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, approximately 70% of lubricant users report a better experience with a long-lasting formula.
Different types of silicone lubricant
- Medical formula (Med): designed for sensitive skin and irritable mucous membranes, fragrance-free and additive-free, often dermatologically tested and ideal for discomfort or intimate dryness.
- Men's formula (Man): a slightly denser texture to adapt to the specific needs of male intercourse, with extreme glide and maximum longevity.
- Pocket size (30 ml): discreet and easily tucked into a bag or kit, perfect for travel or for trying a new product without commitment.
- Large size (250 ml and up): economical to use, ideal for regular couple or individual use, with a great price-to-quality ratio in the long term.
How to choose the right silicone lubricant
- Material compatibility: always check that your accessories are not made of pure silicone; opt for this type of lubricant with metal, glass, or ABS toys, or check out our selection of water-based lubricants for silicone sex toys.
- Skin sensitivity: if you are prone to irritation, choose a Med or hypoallergenic version, free from fragrances or harsh preservatives.
- Intended use: for aquatic activities (shower, bath, jacuzzi), silicone is the only truly effective choice because it is completely water-resistant.
- Viscosity: a more fluid texture is suitable for vaginal intercourse, while a thicker formula will be more comfortable and reassuring for anal use.
- Format and convenience: a pump bottle makes it easy to dose and apply with one hand, a detail that is appreciated on a daily basis.
