How do clitoral stimulators work?
The clitoris is a largely internal organ: only the external glans (5 to 10 mm) is visible, but the complete organ measures up to 10 to 12 cm with its two roots (crura) running along the vaginal walls. It contains about 8,000 nerve endings on the glans alone, which is twice as many as on the entire surface of the penis. This density explains the effectiveness of clitoral stimulators.
Three technologies dominate: classic vibration (50 to 12,000 Hz depending on the motor), pressure wave suction (popularized by Womanizer and copied by Lelo Sona), and the vibrating tongue or tactile stimulator. To amplify the effect, pair it with a water-based lubricant, and also explore dual-stimulation vibrators to combine clitoral and G-spot stimulation.
The different types of clitoral stimulators
- Mini-vibrators and bullets: compact size (8-12 cm), 5 to 10 speeds, ideal for beginners or travel.
- Suction stimulators: suction nozzle that simulates oral suction via pressure waves (Lelo Sona, Satisfyer).
- Vibrating tongues: soft silicone tip mimicking a tongue, with vibration concentrated on the glans.
- Miniaturized wands: compact version of large wands, with a wide head for diffuse stimulation.
How to choose the right clitoral stimulator
- According to your sensitivity: very sensitive clitoris → suction with adjustable intensity, low sensitivity → powerful wand.
- According to the area to target: thin tip for the glans, wide for diffuse peripheral stimulation.
- According to the motor: deep vibration (rumbling), suction (air wave), tactile (tongue or pulsation).
- According to battery life: USB rechargeable rather than battery-operated, IPX7 waterproof rating for the bathtub.
- According to budget: €25-40 for a quality mini-vibrator, €80-120 for premium suction, €150-200 for connected Lelo models.
